West Coast Swing Music is so broad – which is one of the reasons we love it so much. We dance to anything from Aretha Franklin to Justin Bieber! Generally speaking, West Coast Swing is best danced to music that is in 4/4 rhythm and is somewhere in (or around) the 90-120bpm range.
Some of the most popular genres in West Coast Swing are:
Contemporary – This would include Pop Music, Hip Hop, or anything that you’d hear in the Top 40. Basically what is currently popular.
Blues / Soul – The heart & soul of West Coast Swing! This is where the “swing” gets into WCS. Think of artists like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Aretha Franklin, John Mayer, etc.
Acoustic / Remakes – Stripped down, remade, or remixed versions of popular songs. This is probably the most popular genre in West Coast Swing at the moment.
